TSOTNE ZEDGINIDZE CELEBRATES ROTTERDAM DEBUT WITH WORLD PREMIERE OF SYMPHONIC POEM
On 29, 30 and 31 May 2026, a remarkable milestone in the artistic journey of the young Georgian composer and pianist Tsotne Zedginidze was reached when his new orchestral work, Symphonic Poem, received its world premiere at the farewell concerts of Lahav Shani, marking the conductor’s final appearances as Chief Conductor of the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra.
The commission itself represented a significant distinction. By inviting Tsotne Zedginidze to contribute a new work for such a historic occasion, Lahav Shani underscored the exceptional talent and artistic maturity of one of the most exciting young musical voices of his generation.
The premiere carried particular importance as Symphonic Poem is Tsotne’s first work for large orchestra. Presented alongside works chosen to reflect themes of farewell, memory and artistic legacy, the composition introduced a fresh contemporary voice to an event of great significance for both the orchestra and its audience.
For Tsotne, these performances marked not only a successful Rotterdam debut but also another important step in his rapidly developing international career. The collaboration with Lahav Shani and one of Europe’s leading orchestras further confirmed the growing recognition of his work among distinguished conductors, musicians and cultural institutions.
This world premiere stands as an important achievement not only for the young composer himself, but also for the international visibility of a new generation of Georgian musical talent. Through his originality, imagination and artistic depth, Tsotne Zedginidze continues to establish himself as one of the most compelling young voices in contemporary classical music.
